Wood is World's Most
Renewable & Environment
Friendly Raw Material
Wood has always played an important part of our collection. Therefore it is our moral obligation to think about the consequences for the environment, and take eco issues to heart.
The origin of wood
Wood is infinitely renewable. In fact, it is the world's most renewable and environmentally friendly raw material. Cassaro wood comes from the island of Central Java where Hevea trees are generally harvested for wood after they complete the latex producing cycle, when they are 25 to 30 years old. When the latex yields become extremely low, the trees are then felled, and new trees are usually planted. This makes Hevea trees 'eco-friendly' in that the wood is harvested from a renewable source. We also source some wood from well-managed forests in New Zealand where the local government who insists on strict annual replanting and enforces policies restricting the size and number of trees felled each year.
No energy to waste
Production waste, such as residue of logs, wood leftovers and sawdust are being re-used for other means. The sawdust from the logs is either used as a fuel in the drying ovens or compacted as a basis for palettes. All the leftovers after cutting planks to size are recycled by using them as a base material, as finger joints for panels.
FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) is a worldwide independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization that promotes the responsible management of the world's forests.
This organization guarantees that products carrying the FSC label originate from forests that are managed in a way to meet the social, economic and ecological needs of present and future generations. All Ethnicraft and their child-brand collections have a label with a unique FSC number stating that the products are made from 100% FSC certified wood.
CASSAROKIDS also participate in Trees4Trees™ program.
